Newsflash… New director ahoy! We are tickled pink to announce that LA based director Luc Shurgers has joined HOBBY for representation.
Luc studied at Amsterdam’s University of Applied Sciences and was sponsored by David Fincher to go to the USA after David saw Luc’s viral films for Ray Ban, Levi’s, and Nissan. It was here that he began to take advantage of the tremendous opportunity in storytelling for new mediums and modern audiences hungry for something different. Luc has been the go-to creative for a wide range of interactive campaigns that allow viewers to engage and become a part of the story. Luc directed under the Minivegas moniker for nine years and then went on to launch PetGorilla, whose mission was to take creative concepts through to completion with a particular focus on cutting-edge technology.
Over the past five years, Luc’s obsession with computer graphics got out of hand and turned into a full fledged company called DNABLOCK. Although he prefers to describe it as building the Matrix.
In his spare time, Luc is devoted to annoying his wife, making his dog Instagram famous (half way to 100 followers!), and mining crypto.
We’re sure you will agree that, with his unique brand of visual storytelling and comedy chops, Luc already feels like one of the family. We can’t wait to see what he does next! Get in touch if you’d like to see more of the inside of his comedy filled brain.
Why did you join Hobby?
“I had given up on this whole directing thing cause I’m quite busy with the computer these days, and I thought advertising wasn't a thing anymore. But then I spoke to Oscar and he told me that advertising is still a thing actually. And he told me I could still make money making weird shit for them at Hobby. And I don’t have a hobby so I figured let’s join these guys.”
What new technologies are you eyeing up?
"I have everything you’d need at my house actually. A crypto mining farm, a virtual production studio in my guest house, 9 computer monitors, a closet full of motion capture suits. My wife doesn't allow any more tech equipment in the house, but if you guys really think I’ve missed a spot we can talk. "
